Last days of summer? Last time to wear white? I don’t know about those things, but I do know that I spent every minute (well almost) enjoying my time off in the beautiful and so very Ferris Bueller’s Day Off weather! Serisously, 70* and not a single cloud in the sky.
To me, there is nothing more American than a baseball game. I feel more patriotic singing Take Me Out to the Ball Game than the National Anthem! Joseph joined the gang for pregame hotdogs at It’s Brothers and postgame pizza at Mellow Mushroom! Best food day ever! Just look at how happy I am about my cotton candy! Although my Reds lost, we stayed till the bitter end, cheering on our hometown! Don’t trash the Nati, Rockies!
I actually took time to slow down during this holiday weekend. I spent one day watching Young Victoria and thinking of Emily and Ellie (our cute slumber party back in Cincinnati). That night I went out to a casual sushi dinner at Hapa with the girls! We stayed for a good 4 hours! Much needed! When Joseph wasn’t around, I popped in my favorite movies and added crystals to my Irish dance dress ~ merci, Emily! E-6000 is brilliant. Kelly was kind enough to invite me over for snacks and shopping Sunday afternoon and that about wraps up my weekend!
Thank you to all my friends who went out with me and had the best of times! Shout out Alexandra, Kelly, Jenny, Heather, Natalie, Erin, Ashley, Joseph, Seth, and Brian!
In the pictures: Alexandra, Kelly, and I, our new Cincinnati friends and I holding up “105″ as in MPH of the pitch, Joseph and Stacey pregame, Stacey and cotton candy, Jenny and me at Hapa, Heather and Natalie at Hapa.
Thanks, Jon, for the link to Australian photographer, David de Groot ! I love his technical works, but couldn’t help be tickled by this colorful gang on the hill!
I’m IN LOVE! Here are some of my favorite ads from my new favorite blog, The Denver Egotist! Beware – once you start, you can’t stop looking through this blog! ENJOY!
If I was a craftier person, I’d love to make little felt figures for Ellie and Jackson for their birthdays! But seeing as I’m not, this little nod will have to do! Thanks, Bloesem for the review! Love the little Ms. Fox!
Last night, Joseph and I saw the King Tut exhibit at the Denver Art Museum! It was BRILLIANT! I fell in love with all the gold pieces, such as the Pharaoh’s gold slippers, finger covers, earrings, and a radiant floral diadem. It’s a shame we no longer dress in such elegant things. I wear a tiara for Irish dancing, and honestly, I feel like royalty! I secretly love putting it on, holding it, and twisting it in the light to watch it shimmer.
Here is the link to Paris, a store in Cincinnati, where I bought my wedding tiara (called Snow White).
My new favorite! Bee Correspondence Cards from the MET! What’s not to like about these golden jewels? I’ve already made so many notes to friends and family and love the little spell they’ve cast on me.
I’d also LOVE to have at some point in my lifetime a signet ring made with this same bumble bee. It would become my family crest, so to say, and I can just see it being passed down from generation to generation. Because really, what other symbol would be better for a hard-working family?
Looking back on my Cincinnati visit last month, I realize again and again how blessed I am to have such wonderful family and friends! Although I haven’t posted pictures yet, or edited them, or even taken two seconds of my time to upload them to my computer (yikes!) I want to share one of my favorite moments I had while visiting home.
Meet my childhood (and current) neighbors, Maria, Julie, & Laura! We had the most fabulous time at the Bonboneri and here are the photos to prove how happy we were! After the sugar high we all experienced, Julie and Laura tried their legs out on my mother’s bicycle! A cute way to end and extremely cute day at the bakery/cafe!
If you aren’t familiar with Cincinnati’s jewel, Bonboneri, let me teach you.
close your eyes
smell butter, sugar, sweetness, absolute comfort
picture pink ribbons, bright pastry case lights, cookie jars, and decorative cakes
hold a hot cup of opera cream coffee in your hands while you devour a freshly baked Parisian-style macaroons
enjoy pure laughter and joy with your close friends, neighbors, and mom!
First of all it was back to school night and I’ve been at work since 8:00! That’s a long day! After rounds of non-stop teaching both kids and adults about art education, I’m finally home! It’s amazing my voice is still going strong. Thank you, tea and throat lozenges! Too bad I’m due to bed in an hour, but at least tomorrow is field day, phew.
My new job brings many challenges, but when the going gets tough, the tough keep going! If there is anything I’ve learned in the past four years it’s that I’m tougher than I give myself credit for – I can do things I never knew I had strength to do! It’s easy to want to throw in the towel… Quitting is easy – I don’t want to be that person that throws in the towel. I want to prove to myself that anything is possible and that all people, deep down, just want to be known accepted, and cared for in this crazy life of ours.
There will be difficult days, without question. But I know that I’m doing this for people whose saving grace and passion is art! Fuel for my fire!
Today I’m making some food in our tiny little European kitchen with the help of Julia Child! While I was home, mom got Julia & Julia from the library for us to watch. I have to say, I really liked it! I didn’t however like the young Julia, but I don’t think you are supposed to (?) I feel bad even saying that, but she was kind of a wreck. I guess the allure of the movie was older Julia, her life and trials in France and getting her book published! It does make you want to cook, or at least be able to make a signature dish, or if you’re like me, it makes me think of my grandparents on the Stacey side, my mom, and dad! I’ll admit Joseph is a better cook than me, but I still like to pretend I’m a Julia in the kitchen!
I can do this. My first week of my new job – done. This week I realized my friends and family are always there, no matter what state I’m in, physically or mentally. I’m so lucky I have my friends a phone call away. I like to think that no matter our differences in life, we are all here for each other when we need it the most. Whether it’s on our good days or bad, we’ve got support, kind words, and a helping hand to get us through life’s bag of tricks. So if you are out there, in the pits or the joys of life, you know that I’m here for you! Merci!!!
